This past weekend definitely (in my book) qualifies as an adventure.
Antoine, Cecile and the boys left Friday to stay with some some friends of theirs until Saturday evening. I was able to do whatever I like, and so chose to hang out with Elizabeth in Paris. I had to be back, though, Saturday by seven p.m. to watch Joseph while everyone else went to see Mathilde at girl scout camp closing ceremonies.
So, Friday afternoon had me on the Metro with Elizabeth heading to Paris. We had a fight with the Metro Ticket machine who kept spitting my money back at me. But (just in time) we boarded the Metro victorious.
We got off the train half way to Elizabeth's house at a really cool, underground shopping strip. We went to whole bunch of different shops and got completely and happily exhausted. We bought icecream and sat on the steps beneath this really amazing building to enjoy it.
After we finished our icecream we got back on the Metro and completed the journey to her house. Well we got to her house only to have thr front gate be stuck. We ended up having to sneak through her neighbors yard and climb inconspicuously over the fence and in to her yard. We relaxed for the afternoon, watched some films, and hung out. Later we got hungry so we walked to the Monoprix and bought food for dinner and box cake (it was Jeanne's birthday the next day). We got back to the house after an hour of deciding what food to get and cooked a delicious dinner and heartly ate.
Later on we hung out on the front porch with Elizabeth's brothers and friend. We talked about a lot of things. The States, France and the differences between mostly. We talked well into the night and it was, all in all, a really nice way to spend my day and evening for change.
Saturday Elizabeth and I met up with a friend of hers at a park and we talked about the concert her friend went to Friday night. It turned out to be the last Oasis concert before the band split, or maybe they split before the concert, I'm not really sure.
As I had to be back by seven Elizabeth got me on the Metro and I was on my own. (NOT A GOOD IDEA) I was fine on the metro, "Just ride it until it can't go any farther". But when I got off and came up in front of the castle we went to days before I lost all confidence on the inside.
At this point it was ten after six. It should (for people who know what they're doing) be a fifteen minute walk from the castle back to the house. However, for directionally challenged gals like myself, it turned out to be a forty-five minute walk all over town trying to find my way home.
I ended up (don't ask me how) back at the castle THREE times. I finally found the right way and got to the house literally three minutes before seven. The family was just driving up in the van so I even got home before them. A MIRACLE! I really couldn't believe it, I said many thans to God that night.
I was able to talk to my brother Jacob Saturday night for his birthday. That was definitely the highlight of my day.
Okay. So the rest of the week has past without more than the manditory sibling squabbles. Today I baked cookies with Paul and Thomas. They turned out great (really flat and the chocolate chips poked out like skyscrapers, my mom would be so proud!) and the kids loved them.
My care package came and with it the Cronicles of Narnia books. I started reading the first one to Paul and even though I have to paraphrase after each chapter he's already turning out to be a huge fan.
School starts tomorrow. With that will come a big change in the schedule. I really have no idea what to expect anymore, so we'll see. I'm excited to start this part of the journey...
25 days left, that means at the very least twenty-five more adventures to have. I'll be keeping you updated. :)
Yours,
Anna
